Game 21 Preview: Los Angeles Kings @ Dallas Stars

Los Angeles Kings (11-7-3, 25 pts) @ Dallas Stars (12-8-0, 24 pts)

7:30 PM CT, November 23, 2011

American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

Just two months into the season and this will already be the third time that the Kings and Stars meet. The Kings have owned the Stars in recent years and won the first two games this season by scores of 1-0 and 5-3.

The biggest reason for the Kings dominance of the Stars? Jonathan Quick. In the past two seasons, Quick is 10-1-0 against the Stars and he's 12-3-0 in his career against Dallas with a 1.99 GAA and a .928 save percentage. Whatever the reason, the Stars just can't get past Quick and unfortunately, it will be Quick in net tonight.

Stars begin the Gaglardi era with a win

Dallas Stars 4 - Edmonton Oilers 1

As far as beginnings go, the Dallas Stars and brand new owner Tom Gaglardi couldn't have asked for a better start. Gaglardi was introduced as the new owner in the morning and the Stars gave him a look at what he was buying.

Dallas had, unequivocally, their best game in two weeks in their 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. The infusion of Tomas Vincour and Philip Larsen helped this team control the puck and stay aggressive throughout the game. Dallas played one of their most physical games of the season, with Mark Fistric just destroying guys left and right.

Jamie Benn. Loui Eriksson and Michael Ryder were linemates once again after a one game experiment by Glen Gulutzan and they got back on track. Ryder had a goal, Loui had an assist and Benn was all over the ice making plays and delivering hits. Benn didn't record a point, but his impact was definitely felt. Aside from Eriksson, the Stars also got goals from Steve Ott, Toby Peterson and an empty netter from Radek Dvorak.

Edmonton Oilers (10-7-2, 22 pts) @ Dallas Stars (11-8-0, 22 pts)

American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

The Dallas Stars are willing to do just about anything now to get out of their funk. They've hit the panic button, switched up lines and split apart their two best players and now the Stars are getting an infusion of youth in an attempt to get this team rolling again.

The young upstart Edmonton Oilers find themselves in town tonight and the Stars look to be going the Oilers route. Tomas Vincour was called up from the Texas Stars and both he and Philip Larsen will be in the lineup tonight. Larsen was called up when Alex Goligoski was injured, but hasn't seen the ice yet. With the Stars losing five games in a row in very bad fashion, these changes shouldn't come as a suprise.

Game 19 Preview: San Jose Sharks @ Dallas Stars

San Jose Sharks (10-5-1, 21 pts) @ Dallas Stars (11-7-0, 22 pts)

7:00 PM CT, November 19, 2011

American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

The Stars find themselves in a worst case scenario situation tonight. Dallas has lost four games in a row in astonishingly horrible fashion while the visiting San Jose Sharks have been one of the best teams in the past month. Dallas has played back-to-back games three times this year and have lost the latter half of that back-to-back each time.

Meanwhile, the Sharks have just finished a six game home stand, had an extra day of rest and have been on an offensive tear lately. Basically, add up all the talking points coming into this game and the outcome looks grim for the Stars.

Game 18 Preview: Stars look to get back on track vs Avs

Written by Luther Xue on .

Dallas Stars (11-6-0, 22 pts) @ Colorado Avalanche (8-10-1, 17 pts)

8:00 PM CT November 18, 2011

Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado

With the Stars in a bad slump, a trip to Colorado might be just what the doctor ordered. Dallas has lost their last three games, but it's much more than just the losses that plague this team; it's how they've played in those losses. The Stars have been outworked, outmuscled and just plain outplayed in each of their last three games. It culminated in a 6-0 buttwhipping in their Tuesday games against the Florida Panthers. With a combination of the slump and major injuries to important players, they need a major fix to get back on track.

Enter the Colorado Avalanche, a team that is in possibly the worst slump in the NHL right now. The last time these two teams played, the Stars won 7-6 in overtime in one of the craziest games you'll ever see. It was the Avs second game, and second loss, in November and a sign of worse things to come. The Avs have played six games since that Nov. 4th matchup and won only one of them. The one game that they won was an overtime victory over the New York Islanders. They've lost three straight, seven of their last eight and five straight games at home.

Burish out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand

Written by Luther Xue on .

Bad news continues to come down for the Stars as they learned today that Adam Burish is going to miss 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. Burish suffered the injury late in the third period when he got hit with a Brenden Morrow shot. He immediately went down to the ice and into the locker room after the play.

This makes the second Stars player to be lost for a month with an injured hand. Alex Goligoski broke his thumb, also on a blocked shot, and will miss a month as well.

Burish also was injured last season and missed a large stretch from February 3 to February 24 with a broken orbital bone. In that stretch, the Stars went 1-6-2 and severely put themselves behind in the playoff race.

Stars forget to show up, lose 6-0 to Panthers

Written by Luther Xue on .

Final

Dallas Stars 0 - Florida Panthers 6

10,175 people showed up to last night's game to watch the Stars take on the Florida Panthers. Unfortunately for those 10,175 people in the stands (Well maybe not all of them. I assume some were cheering for the Panthers), the 19 guys wearing the home sweaters forgot to show up.

The Stars were dominated in this game from start to finish. The first period felt like it was spent entirely right in front of Kari Lehtonen and it showed on the stat sheet. The Panthers outshot the Stars 14-4, had 10 scoring chances to Dallas' one and scored two goals near the end of the period. The scoreboard said 2-0 after the first period, but it could have easily been 5-0 if Lehtonen hadn't made some amazing saves.

Florida Panthers (8-5-3, 19 pts) @ Dallas Stars (11-5-0, 22 pts)

7:30 PM CT, November 15, 2011

American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

The Stars are back home after a four-game road trip and look to get back to their winning ways. Dallas was whipped by Pittsburgh and Detroit in its last two games. In town tonight to face the Stars are the surprising Florida Panthers.

The Panthers are off to a fantastic start this season and had a six game point streak broken in their last game, a 3-2 home loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. They've won their last three road games by a combined 13-5 score and boast one of the better road records in the NHL (6-3-0).

Game 16 Preview: Dallas Stars @ Detroit Red Wings

Dallas Stars (11-4-0, 22 pts) @ Detroit Red Wings (8-5-1, 17 pts)

6:00 PM CT, November 12, 2011

Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan

The Stars have a short rest from last night's game as they take on the Detroit Red Wings on the final game in their four-game road trip tonight. Dallas is coming off a tough game last night, one in which they lost Alex Goligoski to a broken thumb for up to 4 weeks.

Things don't get any easier with Dallas going to Joe Lewis Arena. The Wings had a stumble the last couple of weeks, losing six games in a row, but they've turned it around and won their last three games. They've won those three games by a combined margin of 13-2 and shut out two of those teams, the Anaheim Ducks and the Edmonton Oilers.

Stars can't get going against the Penguins, fall 3-1

Written by Luther Xue on .

Final

Dallas Stars 1 - Pittsburgh Penguins 3

Coming into this game, I was worried about two things for Dallas. I was worried about Pittsburgh's suffocating defense and how good they were on the power-play. The Penguins used their defense and special teams to beat the Stars 3-1 last night.

Dallas could never really get going in this game and it was apparent from puck drop to final whistle. Even though the Stars scored in the first period and took a 1-0 lead well into the second, it just never looked comfortable for Dallas. The Stars weren't winning the puck battles that they did during the Capitals game and were constantly turning over the puck in their own zone.
